DIABLO 4: RENOWN REWARDS EXPLAINED

Since Diablo 4 went with a more open-world style of gameplay, that meant that Blizzard had to add significantly more content to the game that what has ever been seen before in any previous entry in the Diablo series. While there were certainly small scale dungeons and optional objectives for players to pursue in Diablo 3, there was nothing quite on the scale as what Diablo 4 provides for players.

While pursuing optional objectives like dungeons and strongholds give players unique rewards like Aspects and opening up additional Waypoints, there are other rewards that players can obtain for going off of the beaten path. This is where the Renown system comes into play.

Renown Explained (& the Rewards)

Renown is something that is earned by completing optional activities throughout the five major regions of Sanctuary. This system rewards players for exploring and taking time to do something other than the campaign. There are five Renown tiers for each region, and they are unlocked by gaining enough Renown. It is important to know that only three tiers of Renown are available at the start. The other two can only be progressed by completing the first Capstone Dungeon and unlocking World Tier 3. The rewards for each tier of Renown are as follows.

  • Tier 1: Bonus XP, 3,000 Gold, one Skill Point
  • Tier 2: Bonus XP, 10,000 Gold, one Potion Capacity
  • Tier 3: Bonus XP, 25,000 Gold, one Skill Point
  • Tier 4: Bonus XP, 60,000 Gold, 80 Max Obols
  • Tier 5: Bonus XP, 150,000 Gold, 4 Paragon Points

As can be seen, rewards get progressively better as players complete more optional objectives and obtain more Renown. So if players want to get the most out of the Renown system, they will want to unlock World Tier 3 as soon as possible. One important thing to know is that some of the rewards obtained through Renown are realm specific, while others are character specific.

For example, bonus experience and gold obtained from each tier goes to the character that players are currently playing as. The extra skill points and increased potion capacity are realm-specific. So once they are unlocked, all characters will have those extra skill points and increased potion capacity regardless of how much Renown has been earned on that character.

There are six kinds of activities that provide players with Renown, and the amount they give varies. Here is much Renown these activities give.

  • Unlocking Waypoints: 20 Renown
  • Discovering Areas: 5 Renown
  • Defeating Strongholds: 100 Renown
  • Clearing Side Dungeons: 30 Renown
  • Completing Side Quests: 20 Renown
  • Finding Altars of Lilith: 10 Renown.

While players get the most Renown from Strongholds, there are only 15 Strongholds in the game. So while they provide a good boost in Renown, the best way to get all the rewards is to simply do every single side quest and dungeon since there are so many of them.

Diablo 4 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
