RANKING THE 10 BIGGEST UPCOMING FILM RELEASES FOR AUGUST 2024

It’s time for us to get into the month of August and see what’s out there for us at the multiplex and at home on streaming with new movie options.

As we did last month, we’ve broken down what movies are coming out this month that catch our attention. Promising options range from the brand-new installment in the Alien franchise to a new thriller from M. Night Shyamalan.

We’ve also got a brand-new film from the SpongeBob SquarePants universe, an anticipated book adaptation starring Blake Lively and a big video game movie starring a couple of Oscar winners.

Let’s break down which movies this month you should keep an eye on, and when you’ll be able to catch them at the movies and/or on your couch.

Trap

M. Night Shyamalan returns with this serial killer cat-and-mouse chase when who we assume by the trailer is our central bad guy (Josh Harnett) must try to find his way out of a massive concert when he accidentally takes his daughter to a secret police trap to catch him.

Harold and the Purple Crayon

Zachary Levi plays, well, Harold in this loose adaptation of the children's book about a boy who can create anything he wants with a magic purple crown.

Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie

Everybody's favorite underwater squirrel gets a spinoff movie of her own as she tries to save the world of SpongeBob Squarepants with her Texas charm and wits.

The Instigators

Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Hong Chau lead this starry Boston heist film directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, American Made).

The adaptation of the popular video game finally hits theaters, featuring a starry cast headlined by Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis.
