THE FALL GUY STREAMING RELEASE DATE REVEALED

  • The Fall Guy releases on Peacock on August 30, 2024.
  • The Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt film earned positive reviews from audiences and critics, but wasn't a big hit at the box office.
  • The Fall Guy is likely to garner a bigger following on home viewing platforms, but a sequel remains unlikely.

The Fall Guy's streaming release date has now been revealed. Directed by David Leitch, The Fall Guy stars Ryan Gosling as stuntman Colt Seavers, who finds himself wrapped up in a nefarious criminal plot after taking a job with Emily Blunt's Jody, the woman of his dreams. The Fall Guy's reviews were generally positive upon its release in May, but the film, which also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, Winston Duke, and Stephanie Hsu, didn't totally make a splash at the box office.

Collider now reveals that The Fall Guy will start streaming on Peacock on August 30, 2024. The streaming release, like the VOD release, will include an extended cut that adds 20 minutes of footage to the runtime. In total, the extended version of the film will feature a runtime of 146 minutes.

How Did The Fall Guy Fare In Theaters?

The David Leitch Film Wasn't A Box Office Hit

For the most part, critics enjoyed Leitch's ode to old school action movies and stunt performers. The film currently enjoys a respectable 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviews praising the film's mix of action, romance, and comedy, and the charismatic lead performances from The Fall Guy's cast, especially Gosling and Blunt. In general, the movie was widely praised for just how fun it was, even if it doesn't break any notable new ground.

Leitch co-directed the first John Wick, and is now also widely known for directing Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, and Bullet Train.

The Fall Guy's audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is 86%, suggesting general movie-goers found plenty to enjoy with the film, but that doesn't mean there was a great turnout at theaters. Made on an estimated production budget of $130 million, the film ended its theatrical run with only $178 million worldwide. Using the standard Hollywood rule of thumb, The Fall Guy was probably looking at a break even point of roughly $325 million, making it a fairly major disappointment.

The Fall Guy seems destined to remain a popular watch on VOD and streaming for years to come, with Gosling and Blunt's charisma and the film's light tone sure to attract viewers at home. The film's box office failure, however, essentially suggests that the budget was just too large for this type of film in today's theatrical landscape. While key creatives involved have expressed interest in making a sequel to The Fall Guy, it's not looking likely that one will happen.
