Everything Revealed By The Trap Trailer

How Josh Hartnett's Serial Killer Turns The Pop Concert Trap Against His Captors

After Ishana Night Shyamalan made her directorial debut with The Watchers in early June, the Summer of Shyamalan continues with Trap, the latest film from M. Night Shyamalan, releasing in theaters in early August. The first Trap trailer revealed one of the movie's major twists, which Shyamalan is famously known for. As Harnett's character leaves the concert to use the bathroom, he notices a significant police presence and soon discovers they are there to catch a serial killer. The twist is that Harnett's character himself is the killer, and live footage on his phone reveals he is holding someone hostage.

The second trailer for Trap reveals how Harnett's serial killer turns the pop concert trap against his captors. He begins by pushing a girl down some steps and carrying her to the medical ward, where he steals a police radio. Cooper plans to create chaos, as he contemplates pulling the fire alarm before his daughter catches him. Later, he causes an explosion using a deep fryer and enters an employees-only section using a stolen key card. At one point, he seems to avoid the suspicion of several cops by simply carrying a cup of coffee.

Since Trap's trailer suggests that the movie will feature a Shyamalan-esque twist, many have come up with plausible theories about what it could be.

Since the trailers reveal a major twist in Trap, it's been speculated that M. Night Shyamalan's film will feature a second twist. Theories have speculated that Harnett's serial killer turns the trap against police, giving the movie's title multiple meanings, while crazier theories suggest that Trap is a secret sequel to The Sixth Sense. Based on the second trailer, it seems the former theory is more likely, but even without a second twist, most of Trap's runtime will be concerned with how Harnett's serial killer outsmarts police and escapes the high-security situation, positioning it as a pure process movie.

Trap releases in theaters on August 2.
