KIM CATTRALL ON HER ONE CONDITION TO APPEAR ON SEASON 2 OF AND JUST LIKE THAT...

The long-awaited Sex and the City revival series, And Just Like That... was a wild ride for fans and critics alike. Between Kim Cattrall's controversial absence from the show, Mr. Big's equally controversial death by Peloton-induced heart attack, and a generally patchy critical reception for the ten-episode series, there's been plenty to discuss. But the rollercoaster isn't over yet—And Just Like That... is back with a second season. Here, everything you need to know about season two:

Kim Cattrall will return with a short cameo.

Aidan and Samantha Jones were the two main characters who did not appear in And Just Like That... But for fans who've been missing Samantha, there's even more good news on the horizon—season two will find more ways to incorporate her, despite her on-screen absence.

Actress Kim Cattrall famously passed on reprising the role of Samantha in the new series, and that's unlikely to change with season two. But showrunner Michael Patrick King recently revealed that she will remain a presence in the sophomore run. Asked by Variety whether Carrie and Samantha would still be texting in the new season, King replied: "Yes!"

King also delved into some speculation about what Carrie and Samantha's off-screen conversation in Paris might have looked like. “It’s very funny, because every single one of the writers has a different version of what happened during that conversation,” he said. “So, I think there was some Champagne. I think there was a grownup back and forth... they realized that something’s more important than being afraid to heal. I’m sure they had a great night. To me, they had a great night and things became resolved. Once Carrie let go of an old, old love, one of her current loves came back in.”

In May 2023, Variety confirmed Cattrall will appear in one scene. "According to sources, Cattrall shot her dialogue on March 22 in New York City, without seeing or speaking with the stars of the series, including Sarah Jessica Parker, or with And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King," Variety wrote.

Now, Cattrall shared her condition for returning: if Pat Field, Sex and the City costume designer, would also return. "It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, 'What can we do?' And I went, 'Hmm…,'” Cattrall said on The View. "Let me get creative and one of those things was to get Pat Field back because I just thought that if I’m going to come back I gotta come back with that Samantha style, I gotta push it and we did."

John Corbett is set to appear as Carrie's ex-fiancé, Aidan.

Per Deadline, Corbett is "set for a substantial, multi-episode arc on the second season of the Sex and the City followup, reprising his role as the likable furniture maker."

Back in 2021, Corbett said he would be returning, teasing to Page Six, "I think I might be in quite a few [episodes]." Sarah Jessica Parker found him hinting at Aidan's return funny, telling Watch What Happens Live in February, "It was fun. It was fun for him to say that. When he actually reached out, very kindly, because he’s nothing if not a gentleman, and apologized for doing that as a joke, and then I was like, ‘No, no, no, it’s a free country first of all.’ And I thought it was kind of delightful and kind of fun." That same month, Parker told Deadline that a Corbett appearance in season two was "possible."

In September 2022, Parker seemed to confirm that Corbett would be back. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the premiere for Hocus Pocus 2, the actress responded to a question about Aidan's return with a sly, "Could be, could be... You know, I can't be like, cryptic about it anymore."

In January 2023, HBO Max released a still of Carrie and Aidan, tweeting, "Shh. Don’t tell anyone":

Corbett and Parker have been pictured on set throughout January and February 2023, implying Aidan will have a major role in season two:

Aidan and Carrie last had a moment together in the film Sex and the City 2.

The plot will focus more on the characters together.

Parker, Nixon, and Davis are all coming back as Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, respectively. King shared that one of his goals for the new season is to "bring all the characters into the mix together, so that they're not so much on separate runways." But he stopped short of revealing too much, adding: "It's all so new right now. One of my big rules is don't tell things until they're real."

Speaking to Vulture at the end of last year, HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys said "I’m very happy with what they’ve done. I will tell you, it’s kind of what you want in a show like this. It really does feel like you’re picking up with old friends and haven’t missed a beat.”

Season two is going to be "very different from season one," Sarita Choudhury (who plays Seema Patel) teased to Page Six. Choudhury also said it is "funnier" than season one.

Filming took place through late 2022 into 2023, with cast members—mainly SJP—spotted all around New York City.

In April, Parker posted on her Instagram that the cast had a wrap party.

And Just Like That... is officially returning for a second season.

In late March, HBO confirmed the show would be returning. "I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters - played by these powerful, amazing actors. The fact is, we're all thrilled," executive producer Michael Patrick King said in a statement. "And Just like That... our Sex life is back."

An anonymous source suggested that the negative reception of the series may have made, counterintuitively, a second season more likely. “They may feel that they want to prove a point that they can make a second season stronger and that it was valid to bring it back for fans," this source said.

The show's future has also been complicated by the sexual assault allegations that have emerged against actor Chris Noth, who plays Mr. Big. (He denies said allegations.) Although the character died in the first episode of the series, he was originally scheduled to make an emotional in the season finale. The episode saw Carrie journeying to Paris to scatter Big's ashes into the Seine river (which, by the way, is illegal in France). The original plan was for Noth to make a cameo where Big appears to Carrie in a vision, but the appearance was been scrapped. Illicit ash-scattering, though, remained in the show.

The show will premiere on June 22, 2023.

HBO Max, which will be known as Max going forward, shared a teaser trailer for the season:

There will be eleven episodes in the season; the first two will drop on June 22, and the rest will drop weekly.
